Lest We Should Forget ...

I was in overwhelmed mode. Rushing to work. Making a mental work to-do list, home to-do list, grocery list, etc. Then I saw him and remembered. He's been at this same busy intersection in Dublin, Ohio on 9/11 in recent years. He just stands there in uniform, holding the American flag. A reminder.

Suddenly, everything in my head--and seemingly all around--became silent. Some cars honked, acknowledging him. Some drivers waved. Some saluted. I was thinking what a coincidence it was that I just happened to bring my camera with me to work today. I never do that. I stood on the opposite corner. Four lanes of cars passed between us. He turned and looked at me, stopping. I zoomed in. I snapped a few pictures; put my camera down. He nodded at me and mouthed, "Thank you." I could feel my eyes welling up. No. Thank you.
