Back to School Backs

Two peas in a pod (or the red wagon), wearing their Mimi-made backpacks. "Tank you for mine batpat, Mimi," says A. Boston, playing with the green button wheels. You are so very welcome, precious.

J-School Chick Goes Artsy

This one's for me. I decided to call it "J-School Chick Goes Artsy," since its black, white and red (read) all over--like a newspaper. Get it? Journalism school. Okay, never-mind.

Anyway, I had a few really self-indulgent hours to work on this on Saturday when the boys went to a movie.

I used some of my best and favorite fabrics (some silk), tried out my scalloped-edge stitch on my sewing machine, added a red satin rose applique and some checkered ribbon detail along the top edge. Isn't it fun? So many more combinations to come!

A. Boston is Ready to Travel

When I showed A. Boston his backpack "in progress" last week--he just giggled with excitement. I can't wait until he sees the finished project.

I found some fun fabric with cars in primary colors, then added some swatches of other primaries--and a car cut-out. (Okay, I admit that maybe my freehand mobile looks like a 70s Dodge Dart). Two big green buttons made nice wheels. The Dart dons a big "A" for the little man, himself.

Backpack for LeLu

My new project (in addition to the new bracelet, necklace and sets of 20 earrings I need to finish soon) is ....drumroll, please ... drawstring backpacks. I've been petting my fabric collection this week (inspiration therapy). Then, I stumbled upon a BIG sale at JoAnn's on Thursday. Ahhh. (I lie in bed wide awake at night designing these things in my head! Arrggghh!)

As always, I needed to start with a couple of prototypes to work out the kinks. I finished a fun little princess backpack for LeLu (right). I love the happy lime green and hot pinks. (So Lily.) I added ribbon trims and lined it with some white eyelet fabric that Soups gave me a while ago. The foldover created a pretty eyelet edge. Now I'm working on A. Boston's (truck themed). Can't wait to show you when it's finished!
