Embrace and Release

I remember watching an interview with The Judds once (the popular mother/daughter country duo) that was taking place just as Naomi (the mother) was retiring from her singing career due to health issues. Wynonna (the daughter) was tearful and apprehensive about flying solo. During the interview, Naomi turned to her daughter and said, "Remember, life is ... embrace and release. Embrace and release."

I gathered with some work associates today to embrace and release our dear colleague and friend, Aims. She's off to a new adventure that includes marriage and moving abroad. Professionally, she leaves a unique set of boots behind that will be a challenge for anyone to fill. On a personal level, we are feeling the void already.

You know, sometimes, you go for months or years on the treadmill of life on autopilot ... with little change. Then, one day, the cool fall winds arrive ... (this time with a storm, as if to punctuate the week with an exclamation point)! And suddenly change is everywhere. All those things you took for granted day after day (and even whined about) are gone, leaving you glancing around for something familiar to embrace. Funny how the release is always so much more difficult. All the more reason to say what's in your heart, huh? We love you, Aims.
