How Do You Spell Relief?

Is it Friday yet? No? Okay, "just keep swimming. Just keep swimming." (This is Nemo reference, for you non-Disney movie buffs.) Some weeks start off with more hurdles than others, n’est-ce pas? My sister (Megs) and I have a running joke, based on a conversation we had a while back that went something like this:

Me: “I could use a Spa day.”
Her: “Me, too. But I don’t have the time or money for that, right now.”
Me: “Me, neither. I’d settle for a glass of wine and a manicure.”
Her: “I’d settle for a six-pack and a bottle of nail polish.”

I was thinking about that today … and smiling. (That was followed by a moment of gratitude for our weird sense of family humor.) Being a practical (cheap) girl, I was thinking about all my fav ways to combat stress. Here’s my list (in no particular order):

-Creating! (Making jewelry, sewing, baking, updating clothes, rearranging furniture—best done late at night, painting, scrapbooking)
-Walking the dog (This is only a pleasure in nice weather) & talking to him or the cats (they’re the only ones who really listen.)
-Working out at the gym (swimming; walking on the elliptical or treadmill)
-Going to the library and pouring over design books
-Taking a country drive with my “mo-tune-va-tor” music playing & the windows down
-Taking a nap
-Prayer & meditation
-Escaping with my DVD player, headphones & chick flicks
-Laughing with family &/or friends
-Posting on my blog! (Thanks for reading!)

So, the next time I’m whining here about myself, life, circumstances (poor me), remind me of this list, okay? What’s your favorite (cheap) way to reduce stress in your life?
