Po No Flo Road Trip

Day two of the "Positivity North Florida Road Trip" (or Po No Flo Road Trip). I dragged Sooz along with me, and K and his friend N. We covered a good 7 hours of road yesterday (and managed to get out of Dodge by 2:30 p.m.--which is saying a lot for us. We were packed like sardines in the car. (Us B-girls simply can't travel light. Sorry Mom, we tried, but we just can't.)

We hit a nice Hampton in Statesville, NC last night. They even had warm chocolate chip cookies at 12 midnight. (Note to self: come back here). Plus a Starbucks nearby. Nirvana. We drove as far as Savannah and decided to stretch our legs and discover a bit of the city.

We found a great local hamburger joint--B & D's Burgers ("Savannah's best burgers for six years running!") and so, we had to do as the Savannahians do. Since you could build your own burger, Sooz tried some sundried tomatoes & black olives on hers; the boys went for the Telafair burger (with apple smoked bacon & cheese); I piled on the classics while this ugly gator (right)--with innerds tacked to the wall over my right shoulder--eyeing my sandwich & sweet 'tater fries, all the while.

Next, we hit one of my fav shops in this suthin' city--The Paris Market. Sweet little soaps, fun European antiques, religous medals and statues, and even a coffee bar. Sooz was inspired by an old French bike complete with "bread" basket filled with baguette-like rolled up t-shirts.

Walking south, we hit the shops and historic area along River St. I shot some great pics--including this old building (now offices) with bike in front. One could shed one's Midwest weight in a big hurry down here, biking to work and "shining" in this heat and humidity. ( Remember the old saying..."Horses sweat, men perspire and women shine.")

There was a big old Riverboat docked by the shops. Songs like "Old Man River" were running through my head (along with visions of dancers & tamborines on deck--like from the really old musical).

I planned games for the boys to do during the drive down--with prizes ranging from gift cards to bags of candy treats. We started the day with a "Name the states" game ... which Sooz made me do (trying to list all 50 with no map). I'm embarrassed to admit I could only come up with 45 states ... before she reminded me of the others. So, my apologies to all you people out there in Idaho, Missouri and the other three states I'm too tired to remember right now. I'll make it up to you someday (by learning about your state flower or something).

Sooz's biggest claim to fame is her innate ability to find, without fail, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd in any city in the continental U.S. (usually within an hour)--whether she's looking for it or not. So, as we were leaving Savannah, we asked the parking garage attendant how to get back to the freeway. Guess which street she directed us towards? We decided we needed to start getting photographic proof of this amazing feat--right. Only this one was in Jax, FL--since I couldn't get my camera out quick enough to shoot the Savannah MLK Blvd sign.)

Stay tuned for tomorrow's adventure! Wish you were here! (With a freshly brewed Starbucks Venti Black iced tea.)
